PRESS RELEASE:
Fire Protection experts Guardian Fire & Security have teamed up with Sharing the Care to deliver fire safety messages to homes throughout County Wexford and its borders.
The initiative was launched during Fire Safety Week (5th – 12th October) and will see up to 100 replacement smoke alarm batteries and fire safety awareness information delivered to homes during the Winter months.
Guardian Fire & Security will sponsor the batteries whilst Sharon Bolger and her team at Sharing the Care – Wexford’s longest established nursing agency and homecare service will provide the network to deliver the batteries and vital fire safety messages to some of the most vulnerable groups in our communities including the elderly and those with special needs.
On average over 40 people die each year in fires in Ireland and over 80% of fires that result in fatalities are in homes that have no working smoke alarm which can be due to dead, disconnected or missing batteries.
“We all have a part to play in protecting our communities from fire” said Brendan Stamp, Managing Director of Guardian Fire & Security. “This years national fire safety week campaign is aimed at prompting older people directly and indirectly through their relatives and care givers to take protective fire safety action. This social initiative with Sharing the Care provides a unique opportunity for us to help in a practical way and at the same time educate and influence people about fire safety”
