What is a Fire Assembly Point?
A Fire Assembly Point is a designated location or safe place where the occupants of a building can gather in the event of a fire or other emergency.
Factors to consider when deciding on a Fire Assembly Point location
This is a question we are often asked and requires careful consideration. In brief,
- It is recommended that the location of an Assembly Point is a minimum 1.5 times the height of the building away such that persons are safe from the dangers of smoke inhalation, heat, falling debris and the possible collapse of the building.
- It is important to ensure there is sufficient capacity at the location to accommodate the maximum number of people evacuating.
- We strongly recommend that you have secondary Assembly Point in case first is not accessible.
- You will also need to give consideration to access routes for the Emergency Services ensuring these are not blocked or obstructed.
- Routes leading to the Assembly Point should also be considered with special consideration for those less mobile and if there is any high risk areas on the route.
- Both the route to the Assembly Point and the Assembly Point itself should be well lit.
